Here’s my first big creative project as Creative Lead of Blue Dot within BIG W. Toy Mania – The Greatest Toy Event in the Universe. We launched in-store and online and treated families with some exciting new creative spanning across Social, TV, Out Of Home and Website channels. It combines both puppetry and stop motion that brings to life a squad of toys including; Jurassic Park’s T-Rex, LEGO, He-Man, and Barbie. The films also give a cheeky nod to favourite movie scenes that parents will remember along the way.
In previous campaigns, we’ve focused on the excitement surrounding new toys and the Toy Mania event itself. This year, we wanted to put the toys front and centre, encapsulating the fun of Toy Mania, which is how the race to the Greatest Toy Event in the Universe was born.
It was important to keep the movements of the toys true to form, so we worked with great animators and stop motion puppeteers including award-winning director and animator Jono ‘Dropbear’ Chong who helped inform the creative of real toys racing across the real world. Paired with the punk edge rendition of our familiar brand track, ‘Happy Together’ from Massive Music, and post-production magic from Rumble & White Chocolate, it’s really brought this campaign to life and we’re thrilled with the result.
